Midlands Learning Weekend Confirmed, Date - 11th / 12th Sept

New postby SteveW1805 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:52 am

Post started by Steve but edited by Alfred on 30th July to keep all of the information together on the first page.

Please let me know ASAP if you wish to attend this event.

Having spent a couple of hours on the internet and calling a few fisheries it appears that Barston lakes in Solihull may be an ideal location for this event:

http://www.barstonlakes.co.uk/Barston%2 ... ishing.htm

The venue was used for the British Carp Angling Championships a few weeks back and produced plenty of fish:

http://www.britishcarpchamps.co.uk/bcac ... pions.html

I am going to France in the morning for a week so will not be able to update this thread in the next eight days (I will check tonight) Assuming enough interest is shown and deposits can be collected promptly I will book the venue on my return.

Proposal:

Venue - Barston Lakes (main lake)
Date - Saturday 11th September to Sunday 12th September
Arrival - 9:00 am Sat
Departure - Sunday TBC
Ratio of learners to tutors - 1 to 1 if possible (ideal but not essential)
Costs - £20 per angler for 24 hours, with an additional fee of £7.50 if we decide to stay for the day on Sunday.

With the date approaching rapidly we cannot afford to waste time so I will require the following information ASAP:

Do you wish to attend? (probably best not to reply if the answer is no)
Can you get to the venue?
Are you under 18?
Are you happy to pay for the event upfront? (it is unfair on those that do attend if they have to pay for your fishing while you sit at home)
What level of experience do you have? I need to establish who the tutors are.
Do you have the required equipment? please don't be put off the the answer is no as we WILL sort out any shortfalls in tackle.
Please feel free to message me if you have any special requirements and don't wish to post them here - again we will accommodate where possible.

Please reply with at least the information requested above as the timing is critical to this event getting off the ground.

Many thanks,

Alfred (Alan)

Currently we have two interested members but need to increase this to make the event worthwhile, please let me know if you want me to add you to the list.

Hi guys,

Here is what I have done:

Appointed Alfred as event organiser and point man. No offence Trev', but Alfred and I had agreed this a little way in advance - you are, of course, very welcome to contact Alfred and arrange your participation.
All arrangements henceforward will be made through Alfred.
I have contacted Billy and asked him to put his name down and indicate how many pals he has wishing to come along.
I have also updated the thread header to give summary details of the event.

Now it is a case of putting it all together, so good luck. I will keep an eye out and update any details in the header as soon as you have them decided.

Good luck on Cromwell Mark, it has been producing a few fish over the last few weeks, including a near 40 on Friday night.

I have fished it a few times but a friend of mine fishes it regularly and has had some great fish out. I struggle driving past A1 pits though as it is just down the road from Cromwell and offers some proper big pit fishing, it is a stunning looking venue though and is a lovely place to spend a few days.

I am looking forward to the pictures.

Hi MM,

Welcome to the site, I will be organising an event very shortly in the Midlands area and you are be very welcome to attend, please watch this space for more information.
In the meantime I would be interested in your level of experience and a rough idea of the tackle you have - not in depth just weather or not you are equipped to night fish or not would be ideal.

It looks like you have enough kit to get started, it may be worth waiting until after the learning day before going on a spending spree - it may save you from buying things you don't need and give you a better understanding of what you do need.

Hi Alfred.
Depending on the date + Venue for this event, i am willing to travel to help out.

there is a newcomer to the forum, mackey74. whom i coached at Hawkurst last week, who wants to attend.

i am more than prepared to meet him, and transport him both ways, as he lives near Hastings.

I will lend him all tackle needed for the day, and if anyone else needs any bits i will be bringing 2 two rod setups.

Hope to see you soon

I think it's about time a date and venue was agreed for this learning day. Any suggestions where this could be held?

I have given this much thought and am really struggling for a suitable location that should allow us to fish reasonably close, possibly even booking the entire lake if interest permits, a few fish would be nice too!

I will have another search around the net for inspiration tonight but welcome any suggestions.
