HOW TO CAST ACCURATELY TO FEATURES

New postby tryzard » Tue Jul 07, 2009 1:39 pm

How to cast accurately to features:

Remove your hooklink and cast the lead towards your feature making sure you drop a few yards short.
Pull off a few feet of line, put the line in the line clip, wind in and cast again, keeping the rod at an angle of about 45 degrees to absorb the shock when the clip is reached.
Repeat this process until satisfied the lead is hitting the water as close to the feature as you want it to go, then mark the line by your chosen method (tape, pole elastic etc.). Put the line in the line clip, add your baited hooklink and cast. Remove the line from the clip before tightening up, slackening off or whatever.

Always cast with the line clipped up. If you get a fish or forget when winding in, make a false cast away from the feature so you can clip up again. Always stand in the same place when you cast and keep the rod at the same angle when the lead hits the water.
Calm down, they're only fish!

Also Alan,

If I may add, once you have cast to the desired spot, you can then have a pull around the spot or 'area' to find if there are snags and also if you are fishing a gravel drop off or weed or silt? ;)

And if you want features, then fill your boots with this! My little UK pond stocked with 50 carp in the 60's, and came out to 50+ Still my favourite water ever!

Hi guys,

I have published this from the main web site:

http://www.thinkingcarp.com/

I have accredited Tryzard and Noknot for this. I hope that is OK - if not, let me know and I will change it.

The only thing I would add is always use a visual marker that can be seen day or night so you can line up the cast each time,
I use a combination of electrical tape with a marker pen each side because, I have had the tape slip whilst under tension playing a fish or submerged and this helps to identify it if or when it happens.
Life is a Journey of many Twists and Turns , Ups and Downs and new Horizons , but no matter what route you take , what Sat Nav you use or how good you are with a Compass sooner or later your come to a Dead End.
